The Jerome Robins Clipper is a Max for Live audio processor designed to attenuate audio peaks, resulting in a louder sound while preserving transients. By removing peaks at a specified threshold, the clipper ensures that the rest of the audio remains unaffected. This technique is particularly useful for reducing transient peaks while maintaining the overall dynamics of the material.
The clipper is especially effective on instruments with significant dynamic ranges, such as kicks, snares, hats, claps, stabs, and plucks.
Additionally, using a clipper plugin before your limiter can enhance loudness. By reducing waveform peaks prior to limiting, the limiter can operate more effectively, preventing undesirable pumping effects that may occur when heavily limiting a signal. This approach helps increase the loudness of your tracks while preserving clarity, resulting in a vibrant, impactful, and dynamic mix or master.
